Bassist Jonathan Maron has returned to NWS to pick up work on his solo album. Post photo features Maron and alto saxophonist Patrick Bartley (Wynton Marsalis, Late Show with Stephen Colbert band) laying down some alto with ring modulator – a studio first!!
Maron is a Grammy-nominated electric bassist, composer and producer known for co-founding New York’s legendary Groove Collective. With other artists, he can be heard on almost 200 records ranging widely in style, including Maxwell’s platinum selling “Ascenscion (Don’t Ever Wonder)”. Maron has also performed with Meshell Ndegeocello, Tupac Shakur, Shujaat Khan, Dave Douglas, Jewel, India Arie, Donny McCaslin, Anoushka Shankar, and Kurt Rosenwinkel, among many others.
I had the pleasure of working with Maron here with his band Trio Feral and as a session musician for singer/songwriters Minnie Dee, Katie Elevitch and Bobby Fingeroth.
With his solo album, we’ll be putting the finishing touches on instrumental tracks in the vein of Maron tracks produced at NWS a few years ago – like “Over and Out” below.
