Happy New Year from NWS!!!
Had a great 2015 working with a bunch of talented artists in a wide variety of styles. Also saw albums produced here receive award nominations and tracks get wider exposure via film/tv placements.
AWARD NOMINATIONS
Trio Feral’s debut album “Don’t Feed” was nominated for a 2015 Australian Jazz Bell Award.
This genre-defying record was mixed and produced at NWS with bassist Jonathan Maron, drummer Bill Campbell and keyboardist and Aussie native Barney McAll. It was one three finalists nominated in the category of Best Australian Contemporary ‘Avant-garde’ Jazz Album.
Spottiswoode & His Enemies’ “English Dream” was nominated for “Best Adult Contemporary Album of the Year” by the Independent Music Awards.
Producing this collection of songs by Jonathan Spottiswoode and played by my fellow Enemies was a pleasure. Big piano, chimey guitars, deep grooves, soaring horns and lush layered vocals.
TV PLACEMENTS
The title track from Spottiswoode’s solo release BLAZE OF GLORY was featured in DIRECTV’s mixed martial arts drama Kingdom. Track was produced at NWS, released by the Kouzinier Brothers on their label Superpitch in Paris, and placed by Ocean Park Music Group.
“Growing Up’s Real Hard” by Engines plays well over the closing credits of PBS-sponsored Roadtrip Nation documentary “The Road to TEACH” detailing a cross country trip by three aspiring teachers. I played lead guitar and synth on the track, mixed it and co-produced with Neil Nathan.
