Don Dilego released his most recent album – Magnificent Ram A – last month on Velvet Elk Records. I had the pleasure of contributing to the record and performing with him this month at an intimate NYC show opening for Jesse Malin at the Lower East Side venue Berlin.
Don recorded the new record over a few years with a variety of musicians at several studios around the country – including New Warsaw Studio and John Vanderslice’s Tiny Telephone in California.
The opening tracking on the album – Karma King – was tracked and mixed at NWS in a day with myself, Don and Colin Killalea all throwing in as we arranged, recorded and mixed down the tune on the fly. Heavy toms, open guitar tunings and gang vocals ruled the day.
The show at Berlin was a blast – playing guitar, mandolin and lap steel on a set that included songs from the new album and a few of Don’s gems from past works.
