The Englishman Spottiswoode has a new collection of solo Americana songs on iTunes produced at NWS and released by the French soundtrack label, Super Pitch. Yes, that’s right, an Englishman records an Americana album in Brooklyn for a French label.
BLAZE OF GLORY is a set of ten songs produced at NWS and commissioned and curated by Parisian post-production house owners and brothers, Gregoire and Thomas Couzinier, primarily for use in film and television placements. The title track has already been featured in a French television commercial for the charity, Fondation de France (see December 20, 2014 NEWS post).
Largely acoustic and full of harmonies, the record resonates with banjos, mandolins, nylon and steel string acoustics, and layers of verbed out vocals. Singing duties are also shared with chanteuse and former Spottiswoode & His Enemies backing vocalist, Jennifer Middaugh, who belts a duet with Spottiswoode on the song “Off the Merry Go Round” and lead on the closing track, “Company”.
